Youth Day + Youth to Washington TourIllinois Electric and Telephone Cooperative Youth DayIllinois Electric and Telephone Cooperative Youth Day activities
are scheduled for April 21, 2010. Spoon River
Electric will be participating with Mid-Century Telephone Cooperative
again this year. This program continues to be well attended by
state officials and legislators, as well as student-participants. Last
year, close to 300 students and adult leaders from AIEC member-cooperatives
gathered to tour Springfield and see "state government in
action." They met with state legislators and
other leaders.
Senators David Koehler, Dale Risinger and John Sullivan and Representative Rich Myers met with 12 students representing Spoon River Electric Cooperative and 11 students from Mid Century Telephone Cooperative during the Illinois Electric and Telephone Cooperatives Youth Day on Wednesday, April 9, in Springfield. Students had an opportunity to view state government in action and tour the State Capitol, Illinois Supreme Court, Old State Capitol and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum. Working together the Illinois cooperatives have developed strong, successful programs that have continued for nearly 50 years. The Youth to Washington Tour is scheduled for June 11 to June 18. Those students chosen by the AIEC and Co-op will have all of their expenses paid by Spoon River Electric Cooperative. Also, "Willie Wiredhand" students are welcome to participate in the tour. "Willie Wiredhand" students are those relatives or friends associated with an AIEC member-cooperative who are "sponsored" by a member-cooperative and participate at their own expense. We recommend that "Willie Wiredhand" students be high school sophomores, juniors or seniors in order for them to obtain maximum benefit from the tour. These "Willie" reservations are taken on a "first-reserved, first-confirmed" basis. Even though we anticipate having plenty of spaces available this year, make certain your employees and directors reserve space early for any sons, daughters or other family members who intend to participate as "Willies" in 2010.
