SREC Line Clearance

The Line Clearance program at Spoon River Electric Cooperative is both innovative and efficient. Sparked by advances in technology and equipment, the new program was launched in Fall of 2006. In May of 2007 Josh DeWees was hired to organize and administer the new program. Since then we have purchased equipment, hired more employees and raised our standard of line clearance. To help cover the cost of this equipment and manpower we have been working with the neighboring McDonough Power Cooperative in the truest form of the cooperative spirit. Our line clearance program is a pro-active effort to decrease power outages and prevent damage to equipment from fallen trees.

The herbicide used by line clearance workers targets broadleaf brush and woody species. It is safe for people and wildlife, but people should avoid contact with treated areas until the product has dried on the leaves.
Controlling small brush and tree growth with herbicide is safer, less invasive and more cost-effective than removing full grown trees near power lines.

If you have questions or concerns about the work we are doing in your neighborhood, please contact Manager of Line Clearance Josh DeWees at (309) 647-2700 or by e-mail at josh.lineclearance@srecoop.org.
